I’ve been ministering on the streets since 2009 when I started in the Tenderloin District in San Francisco. I’ve been ministering in Skid Row since 2102. I’ve always ministered alone because that’s how God had trained me.
In March of 2014, before I left North Carolina to begin a six-month stay in Skid Row, I began to sense that there was some changes coming and I needed to embrace them.
At the end of that trip in September, I returned home to North Carolina. For several mornings I woke up with visions of being with people who were ministering on the streets in Skid Row. They were at different locations and were crisscrossing through the area, then regrouping somewhere with me to rest and refill spiritually.
Early the next year (2015), the Lord began to stir our hearts with thoughts of moving from North Carolina to the Central Coast of California. A few months after He started that process, I had a wonderful dream about someone partnering with me to help put more feet on the streets.
I continued making trips to Skid Row while the Lord prepared us to move. In September of 2016, we packed all our worldly goods in a rental truck and headed West.
In November of that same year, I met with Mark to talk about taking people to Skid Row to minister on the streets. That meeting was the beginning of our partnership.
In September of 2017, after three awesome trips to Skid Row with church members, we took it up a notch and made two trips with forty students and staff members from the IRIS Leader’s School. On the second trip, I was standing on a street corner in Skid Row watching people move toward me from three different directions as they ministered to the unloved and ignored on the streets. At that moment, I realized that I was standing in the midst of the visions that the Lord had given me three years earlier.
When we walk into God’s dreams for us, our success is guaranteed. What He envisions, He brings to fulfillment.
